Electricity Quantities Report – September 2024

According to data from the National Electricity Market Operator (MEMO), domestic electricity production transactions in September 2024 totaled 440 GWh, equal to the total electricity consumption transactions in our country. This does not include the amounts of electricity activated in the balancing energy market, managed by JSC MEPSO.

• Independent producers contributed 181 GWh, representing the largest share at 42%.
• ESM followed with 166 GWh or 37%.
• Virtual producers supplied 69 GWh, making up 16%.
• Preferential electricity producers that use a preferential tariff provided 24 GWh, accounting for 5%.

Of the total domestic production, 67% (or 288 GWh) was used to meet gross consumption needs, while 34% (or 151 GWh) was exported.

The gross electricity consumption in North Macedonia was 440 GWh, of which:

• 66% (or 289 GWh) came from domestic production,
• and 34% (or 152 GWh) was imported.

According to the information provided, transactions in the electricity market from our domestic production fully met the total consumption needs in our country.

To cover net electricity consumption (excluding losses), 399 GWh was sold:

• 53% to tariff consumers,
• 38% to supplied consumers,
• 9% to direct consumers.

The system reported 42 GWh in losses, representing 9% of the country’s gross consumption. Additionally, there was a gross transit of 290 GWh, with 254 GWh as net transit, and 36 GWh designated for counter trading.
